A late June sunset at Watergate Bay, Cornwall over an unusually calm sea; the artist proposed to his wife here and it is a favoured holiday spot. “There is a wonderful feeling about this painting”, according to one art critic who saw the painting. “It puts out a warmth and instantly relaxes you, you can almost hear the waves lapping on the shore”.
The painting was rendered in a soft textured impressionistic style, with a depth of colour and elegant brushstrokes. The 'optical mixing' effect of colors in the painting gives a truth to the appearance.
